One Mess Up After Another

*There are no pictures for today. :( Too busy to take any!*

We woke up at a decent time, just a little before 8. The group went to the dining areas for their last breakfast in Africa and goodbyes. The morning was spent trying to reply to emails and updating our blog, which finally is almost finished! Just one more post needed after this one and that is of today. For lunch, LuRue and Montana went down to the stores and got some yummy American food and a snack for the plane ride.

At 2:30, the group took off to the airport, so they could get there around 3:30, 2 hours before Montana and LuRue's flight left to Oman. It was a very good thing they left at that time, because they just barely made it onto their flight.

When Montana and LuRue got inside the airport a guy pulled them over to "help". He wanted to see their yellow fever vaccination forms. Neither of them had it. LuRue had a photocopy of her 10-year-old one which apparently worked, but Montana didn't have a single thing like it. They waited for awhile and tried different things, one of which was bribery. LuRue offered the rest of their Tanzanian shillings. Edward had said earlier that Africans will easily take bribes. Apparently not this guy. We waited impatiently, thinking we were going to have to spend the night in the airport, as the guy got a worker of Oman Air. The keyword was "Delhi". The first guy who was trying to "help" us, for some reason, thought we were going to Delhi, which you do have to have the yellow fever vaccination for. When the worker of Oman Air came over he looked at our flight information, shook his head, talked in Swahili to the first guy, and went over to the counter to get our boarding passes. We were very relieved when we walked off to security with them!

On our way to security, we passed a booth that is supposed to check our boarding passes. We were both in such a hurry, neither of us even considered the guy might have been yelling at us. Finally a guy passing us on the stairs tapped us on the shoulder and pointed down. We apparently convinced the guy we didn't speak English, because when he was checking our boarding passes, he said in a rude tone, "What? Do you not speak English?"

We finally did get to the boarding area a few minutes before the shuttle came to take them to the airplane. We were quite relieved to finally be on, off to Oman. On the plane ride, Montana started editing a video of their Tanzanian journey and LuRue watched the movie "Frozen", which she thought was fantastic.

The day ended when they landed in Oman a half an hour early!

  1. Just checked my yellow fever vaccination—thankfully it’s good thru 2021----obviously never know when might be needed!—great story!
