Finally we got to sleep in! We ate breakfast at around 8:30. Then at 10am, Morgan, LuRue and Montana went to the secondary school, because yesterday one of the kids told LuRue she could come today to get a tour around the dorms. So that’s what they did.
Joholly, one of the kids, was thrilled we were there and showed us around the dorms. There were rooms, smaller than the one LuRue and Montana are staying in and 8 people lived in one room. It made our housing seem like a 5 star hotel. On Saturday the students always have to do their laundry.
Joholly then took us to the “grounds”, where they play sports like netball or soccer (in Tanzania they call it football). Nobody was there, because it was not play time. Joholly said play time was around 4, so they decided to come back later. Montana was popular!
Morgan then took Montana and LuRue to a store in downtown
Pommern, where Morgan and LuRue bought warm sodas. When they got back to the
mission house, it was 12 and lunch was going to be ready at 12:30, so they just
sat down at the table and talked until lunch came out.
After lunch, Montana
and LuRue did some filming for their
video; so far better than the last. Then LuRue took another African style
shower. Then Morgan, Montana and LuRue went to the “ground”, but the kids were
having some sort of meeting before going to play, so Morgan took them on a tour
of the primary school. In the classrooms, all there was were desks, benches and
a blackboard. Quite a difference from American kindergarten school. By the time
the tour was over, the secondary school kids were out on the “grounds”. There
were games of soccer, volleyball, netball, and even some dancing. Several kids
came up to us wazungu and started talking. All three of us got some weird
questions such as “what is the development in the USA like” or “what is your
opinion on homosexuality”. We learned that if a guy wants to marry a girl it
costs him 10 million shillings.
Then the girls went over to the dancers, but as soon as the
girls came over, the boys stopped, because of shyness according to the girls.
From what we saw, they were really good, doing backflips or front flips without
hesitation. One of the guys tried to get Montana to dance, but she said no. The
kids finally had to go pray, then go to their dorms. Before they left, the kids
gave the wazungu white roses. We have no idea where they got them.
After the kids left, Morgan suggested we go see if our
dresses were done, but the shop was closed. We got attacked by little kids
again and it was getting close to 6:30. So, we headed back just in time for
dinner. After dinner, Montana tried to go to their room to write in the blog,
but got called out again. Edward apparently had some sort of surprise. It turned
out to be a little lesson about the history of Tanzania, which Montana was very
thrilled about, but LuRue was interested in it. After the lesson, everyone went
their separate ways.
