Because of Montana’s debit card being left in Iringa,
instead of doing what everyone else did today, Montana and LuRue got to take
another 2-hour drive to Iringa. Luckily, they were able to retrieve it. After
the retrieval, Mohammed dropped Montana and LuRue off at the Hasty Tasty for
lunch. They split a very good (no sarcasm) dish of garlic fried rice, chicken,
and Naan bread. Then they went to the Internet café, posted their latest blog
posts, and checked their email. During this time, Mohammed was doing something
with the car.
After everyone was done, they all left to drive back to
Pommern. This time there were two guests in the car. They were both pastors.
LuRue talked to the one that was sitting in the back.
Once they got back it was about 4 o’clock. LuRue and Montana
spent some time unpacking their stuff and rearranging it in the way they want
it. At 4:30, everyone had gotten back from their walk, and Mohammed taught a
little Swahili to us. Some of the stuff we learned was:
Lala Salama- sleep well
Tembo- elephant
Jina lako nani? –What is your name?
Polepole –slowly
While everyone else went to a shop, Montana and LuRue went
for a short walk. They got attacked by kids on the whole walk. They were very
touchy and grabbed onto them following them wherever they went. Especially on
the way back. Some of them played a little game of spank the Wazungu, (which
means white people in Swahili).
When they got back, it was pretty much time for dinner. For
dinner, there was some cooked veggies, rice, and beef, which was, on a scale of
-5 to 5, above a zero for both of them. Now, they are ready for their first
volunteering experience tomorrow.
loved the 'picture' of your walk.
ReplyDeleteI only really recall that one word in Swahili, “pole-pole"--came in handy for lots of situations.
"on a scale of -5 to 5, above a zero"--hope it improves!!!
