Serengeti, the Sequel

Last night after we had gotten in the tent and ready to go to sleep, LuRue and Montana heard a strange noise outside. They shined a flashlight in the area the noise was and it turned out to be a whole group of Cape buffalo, about 25 ft away from them.

That morning, they woke up early to go on a morning trip around the Serengeti, leaving around 8:30. Richard took them for a 4-hour safari, seeing lots of animals. The ones that stood out to them the most were a herd of elephants (about 27 of them), a male lion they got really close to, and a grey-crowned crane, about 4 feet tall, with a beautiful array of colors. All were literally within a stone’s throw.

Richard took them back to camp to eat lunch, get packed and leave to their next campsite. On the way to their campsite, LuRue and Montana were able to see a cheetah amongst a herd of zebra, and the wildebeest migration. Wildebeests were truly as far as the eye can see, which is far in a flat plains area.

It was about 5:30 when they got to the camp. Richard had said that dinner would be ready soon, so to pass the time, LuRue went to take a shower and Montana edited her photos. About an hour passed and still there was no food. Suddenly our cook, Godi, came out and told us there were two elephants wandering around. We went out to look. There were two elephants right next to the cooking place, about 15 ft away from where we were standing. They were slurping water from the cistern.

After a little while longer of waiting for their food, a delicious meal of pasta and vegetables came out, and then their dessert: Pineapple and oranges... both LuRue’s and Montana’s favorite dessert! Even better than ice cream.
